Our client - a major oil and gas company with a global presence - faced a significant challenge as they managed more and more work in-house.
The problem was a lack of consistency in approach to managing engineering Cost, Time and Resources or CTRs. Across the company - in exploration, development, production and supply - different engineering teams were using a whole range of outdated applications to develop CTRs. These apps hadn’t been designed for the volume of data the business was now generating, and the problem of inconsistency made analysis and meaningful comparison across departments difficult, if not impossible.
Our client needed one big corporate solution that would work for everyone in the business, from engineers in the field to senior management at head office.
Once a decision had been made to standardise CTR preparation and reporting, the company wrote a ‘shopping list’ of requirements.
The software solution needed to support the development of CTRs, with scope running annually. It had to manage timesheet and budget data. The facility to input progress on a periodic basis, while maintaining history, was essential. To simplify management tasks, the company was also looking for integrated reports via interactive dashboards and to accommodate historic investment, the new software would have to integrate seamlessly with Primavera 6.7 and SAP.
After weighing up several different solutions, our client chose and deployed our mpower software suite.
mpower’s engineering module easily enables the creation of CTRs and uses internal links between different teams and departments to deliver a totally integrated system. Interactive dashboards allow near instant, real-time interrogation of data. Tabular and graphical reporting is standardised across applications and projects for the whole group and the sheer volume of data is no longer an issue, thanks to mpower’s powerful Oracle database.
Our client rolled out mpower quickly and smoothly, hosting the system in-house and managing the entire system through their own IT team. They were able to instantly integrate with Primavera and SAP - other popular software suites like Oracle E-business, IBM Maximo and Microsoft Project are equally compatible.
