Transfield supply services to the Shell Clyde refinery on the outskirts of Sydney, NSW. Shell Clyde relies on the SAP ERP to meet the needs of the business. Transfield Services need to maintain work orders, estimates and enter timesheet hours into this SAP system and to accomplish this they rely heavily on excel spreadsheets to produce estimates for work orders.
The problem arose when Shell asked Transfield Services to produce the work order estimates using norms and implemented a kpi stating that the estimates be 30% norm based by the end of the year. Norms are not available in SAP.
